NEW! Luxurious Lomasi Cremes, Lotions & Scrubs
June 30, 2009 by admin
Filed under Skin Care, Spa Girl Beauty Blog
We are excited to announce that we now carry Lomasi Cremes, Lotions and Scrubs! The Lomasi line not only smells incredible, it is so nourishing and healing for your skin!
Each creme, lotion and scrub comes in yummy scents like:
Mango Coconut
- Mango has long been used to soothe dry, flaky skin
- Moisturize, soften and regenerate while protecting against UV radiation. Coconut oil refreshes and helps moisturize skin better because it penetrates quickly
Cucumber Aloe
- Cucumber is widely known as a cooling agent to help reduce swelling
- Since cucumber and skin share the same level of hydrogen, it helps to soothe problem areas
- Aloe has long been known as the “first aid plant” for its ability to smooth, soothe, restore and revitalize
- Helpful for skin conditions and swelling
Ivory Blossom
- Ivory Blossom contains a blend of anti-oxidants (such as Vitamin E and sunflower seed extract) with naturally soothing emollients (like fig and acai extracts and shea butter) for a decadent experience
- Helps erase everyday stresses
Pomegranate
- Three times the anti-oxidant power of green tea, pomegranate scavenges free radicals to protect against the effects of pollution, chemicals and stress
- Helpful in reducing sun damage
We carry all the scents in the creme, lotion and scrubs.
Lomasi Cremes
For use when intense, prolonged moisturizing is desired or for overnight applications—on the heels, for example. Both the ingredients and scents are intended to enhance the manicure, pedicure and spa experience and to heighten its youthful, relaxing effects. Available in 1 oz and 8 oz.
Lomasi Lotions
For every day use yet not your everyday moisturizer. lomasi’s special blend of ingredients spreads smoothly, absorbs completely and lasts longer. Always apply after cleansing and soaking; may be used on the body as well as the hands. Lomasi lotions contain a powerful blend of anti-oxidants. They are paraben-free with natural hydrating and soothing emollients. Available in 2 oz, 12 oz.
Lomasi Scrubs
New Lomasi Sugar Scrubs have been specially developed by Greg to meet Young Nails’ distinctive product standards, of course, and to work exclusively with all lomasi cremes and lotions. Each scent is a combination of essential oils and emollients in a creamy sugar base. Just perfect as an extra service that will relieve stress and fatigue and refresh, energize and relax. Sugar, instead of a more abrasive substance, exfoliates and softens your skin.
Get That Fresh-From-The-Beach Glow

Get a warm, fresh-from-the-beach glow this year with one of our tanning packages. We feature top of the line tanning beds and lotions as well as airbrush tanning.
Using a tanning bed is a fun and fast way to get a beautiful tan. To help ensure you get the very best benefits from your tanning experiences, here are some great tips for you to follow.
Using a tanning bed can affect any prescription drugs you may be taking, so make sure you discuss tanning with your doctor under these circumstances as well. If you are taking antibiotics, wait until you have completed the treatment before you resume tanning activities. If you take a daily medication for high blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, or other needs it could affect your tanning results. You may find you only burn instead of tan. This is due to the process of photosensitizing.
Too many people rush into tanning with the concept that the longer their tanning session is the better results they will have. You really need to pay attention to your skin type and use it to set the time limit for your tanning sessions. If you burn easily in the sun, then you will burn from a long tanning session as well. Even 15 minutes can leave you red and sore.
It is best to start your tanning sessions around 5-7 minutes. You can increase the time by a minute every couple of days until you reach the maximum time that you want to tan each session. If you find that you get red by adding that extra minute, then go back to the time you used in the previous session. This may be the maximum you will ever get to without burning.
It is very important to keep your skin moisturized while you are using a tanning bed. If your skin gets dry, you will have more dead skin cells on your body. As you shower, they will be washed away. This will result in your tan not getting to that deep, golden brown color you are looking for.
Use a high quality indoor tanning lotion to help your body absorb the UV rays without drying out your skin. Ask the staff about our great quality tanning accelerators and moisturizers.
Most people apply this tanning lotion after they enter the tanning salon, right before they use the actual tanning bed. For the best results, you want to apply indoor tanning location a couple of hours before you go to the salon. This gives it plenty of time to soak into your skin. If you plan to tan on your lunch hour, then apply the tanning lotion on your morning break.
You need to make sure you always use quality eye protection before your tanning session. It doesn’t matter if you are only in the tanning bed for a couple of minutes. If you plan to tan on a regular basis you should invest in high quality eye protection that you can bring along with you.
Following these tanning bed tips will help you get the warm fresh-from-the beach glow you are looking for.
At the Avenue Salon we have the newest and top performing tanning beds available as well as the best quality tanning lotions and accelerators. Call for our monthly tanning specials!
Top 10 Tips for Wedding Ready Nails
June 23, 2009 by admin
Filed under Bridal, Spa Girl Beauty Blog
What bride doesn’t want a perfect set of nails on her wedding day? After all, there’s no better way to show off that special something on your fourth finger. Get your hands wedding-ready with these 10 tips.
Start getting weekly manicures. If the price is too steep for you, get a professional manicure just once a month, and do your own nails during the three weeks in between.
Drink a mixture of orange juice and Knox gelatin once a week to help strengthen nails. For best results, adopt this beauty ritual at least one month before wedding day.
Use a nail-building base coat under your polish. Ask your manicurist which is best.
If you’re a nail-biter, coat your nails with polish that tastes so bitter it stops you from nibbling. Use it for at least two months before your wedding.
Protect your nails from harsh chemicals by wearing rubber gloves when doing dishes and other household chores.
Steer clear of dish soap. Soak hands instead in warm water made sudsy with your favorite shampoo.
Apply a heavy dose of hand cream at bedtime to prevent dry, cracking skin. To really do it right, cover with cotton gloves so it soaks in while you doze.
Ward off chips and splits by buffing nails nightly with a smoothing block.
Top nails off three times a week with a strengthening polish.
And finally, protect your nails by using the end of a pencil to dial the phone.

10 Tips to Relax and Unwind

Filed under Spa Girl Beauty Blog

Get a Massage
Massage is the perfect way to relieve tension. Don’t forget to drink lots of water on the day of your treatment; toxins are released during a massage and water helps flush them out of your system.
Take a Yoga Class
Or better yet, sign up for a package of yoga classes. If you’ve never taken yoga before, choose a beginner class: The breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, and postures will have you totally centered by the time you hear wedding bells. If you don’t have time for class, or if one isn’t offered in your area, try a yoga DVD like A.M. and P.M. Yoga for Beginners or The All-Day Yoga Workout: A.M., Stress Relief, and P.M. Yoga for Beginners. (Even though these aren’t the newest DVDs out there, they’re still definitely among the best — and bestsellers — for beginners).
Soak in the Tub
A nice, hot bath will relax your muscles and your mind. For optimal stress-quenching results, add a bath salt that’ll moisturize your skin and help you loosen up with a soothing scent. As long as you’re lying around in warm water, use a pumice on your feet and a loofah on your knees and elbows for extra polish. You’ll step out of the tub feeling completely refreshed.
Get Outside
When you need to clear your mind, there’s nothing like getting a breath of fresh air — literally! Take a brisk walk or jog outside — maybe some music, no cell phone, just you. You don’t have to get off the beaten path. Even a circuit around your neighborhood will work. Tune out what’s going on around you (but still watch out for traffic!) and concentrate on the rhythm of your strides. You’ll find yourself feeling pretty Zen in no time.
Read a Book
A good book can take you to another world for a while and give your scattered brain a rest.
Hit the Spa
Sign up for treatments that you love or have never tried before, and enjoy a day of total relaxing indulgence. If you’ve never had a facial before, book your appointment! A regular facial regime will leave your skin positively radiant.
Have Some H2O
When you’re feeling swamped, it’s totally natural to go for a caffeine fix. But coffee, soda, and energy drinks don’t just jack you up — they also dehydrate you, leaving you feeling even more worn out when the buzz wears off and you come crashing down later. Grab some water instead. If you’re properly hydrated, you’ll feel better overall — less fatigued, fewer aches and pains, plus your skin will glow. For a soothing sip, make yourself a spa-style pitcher: Spike ice water with slices of orange, lemon, or lime.
Call Home
Talking with the folks you love most will keep you feeling connected and sane.
Start a Journal
Journal the ideas and dreams racing through your mind right now, I am sure there are ones that you won’t want to forget. There are books specially targeted to guide you with pages that prompt you to document everything. But starting with a blank book is also wonderful and will encourage you to write in a stream-of-consciousness style.
Call In Sick
As naughty as it may seem, you deserve it. Use the day to get ahead on stuff that you’ve been putting off, or use it just to pamper yourself (see #1 to 9 above).
